ABOUT PPWR
What is the PPWR?
The new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is the EU regulation on packaging that will be binding on all
member states in the future. Its goal: to reduce packaging waste, promote recycling, and close the loop.
Once the regulation takes effect, only packaging that meets the following criteria may be placed on the market in the EU:
With this measure, the EU aims to reduce the amount of packaging waste by 15% by 2040—an ambitious but important goal.
UPA PACK is PPWR-ready
At UPA PACK, we firmly believe that sustainable packaging doesn’t just start with new laws. For years, we’ve been using materials and processes that are fully recyclable—without compromising on strength or functionality.
Part of the solution—not part of the problem
Solid cardboard packaging plays an important role in conserving resources.
This means that UPA PACK’s cardboard tubes, corner protectors, and interlayers are not part of the packaging problem—but part of the solution.
Efficient shipping packaging prevents damage, returns, and CO₂-intensive reshipments.
In short: Choosing sustainable shipping protection saves resources across the board.
Our products in the context of the PPWR
Cardboard tubes
Our tubes are made from 100% recycled paper.
They are recyclable in accordance with EN 13430 / ISO 18604, the adhesive is water-soluble, and they contain no plastic film or coatings. After use, the tubes can be disposed of through the paper recycling system.
Edge protection bracket
Our corner protectors are made of single-grade solid cardboard and are available with printing or a water-based coating. They are sturdy, sustainable, and fully recyclable.
Interlayers
Our solid cardboard dividers replace plastic sheets or foam sheets. They are recyclable, biodegradable, and made from recycled fibers.
Labeling & Transparency
Our packaging is designed in accordance with the requirements of EN 13430 / ISO 18604. Upon request, each product can be labeled with a material code (e.g., PAP 20) that confirms its recyclability. In this way, we ensure transparency throughout the entire supply chain—from production to recycling.
Conclusion
The PPWR is transforming the European packaging market—but not our philosophy. We have always manufactured our products with a sense of responsibility, efficiency, and
respect for resources. UPA PACK—sustainable transport protection, PPWR-compliant, and future-proof.
